Remember when we lodged in private homes at conventions?
by FatFreek 2005 ini bring this up now because i haven't seen any postings about that practice because i got out in 1977. when did wt quit soliciting private homes for accomodations?
or have they stopped?.
i hated it, but it was the only way we could afford to go.

I remember as a child staying at private homes for conventions one was a JW family in Canada (father, mother and young son) and the other was an older couple not JWs. It was a different time then...... -

by nowawake14 ini have read extensively about the origins of birthdays, and i still don't get it.
but it's not what it means today.. even wedding veils were used to ward off the "evil eye".

I think so if these beliefs are just made up to make the members feel special and different - a way to make it an us a against them environment even in innocent things.

I had my fair share of crazies, the ones that thought because you said hi when they said hi, you were interested in getting married. On more than one occasion I was greeted with “hi, are you married?”.
I did date some guys in the religion. One told my father I was “too headstrong”. I had two relationships that were a lot of fun. One - his family was crazy, his dad was an elder and I would stay at their house over night (gasp). We just didn’t go to the meeting when I came to visit. Never had chaperones.
The second, got out long before I did. In fact that’s why we broke up. We had a lot of fun skiing, going to movies, hanging out. His mother would rent us movies to watch in his bedroom (hah!). We did go to the hall when I visited him and would just tell everyone I was staying at his brother and sister in laws house, so nobody would bitch.
The best advice I got from my elder father was to not bring anyone I was dating to our hall, and try to avoid the guys hall when possible. What people don’t know they can’t talk about. I got away with a lot that way.

Ladies First
by snugglebunny ini know a lady who says she feels demeaned if a man walks on the outside or opens a door for her or stands aside to let her pass.
i just think it's good manners.
being a gentleman has nothing to do with equality in my opinion..

I am a woman, I work in an executive position for an international company. I always smile and say thank you when someone holds the door for me.
I have had great success by implementing “if you want to be treated equally you have to act equal.” I was fortunate early in my career to have mentors give me advice on how to successfully navigate being a woman in a male dominated business.
And for the pay gap, I believe part of it at least at my level, is that women don’t negotiate their compensation packages nearly as often as men do. One of my male mentors told me to never accept the first offer even if I’m happy with it. Negotiating for pay makes me uncomfortable, but I have never had a company reject my counter offer to their salary/benefits-package.

Do You See JWs Going From House to House Anymore?
by minimus ini used to see them in my neighborhood or while driving.
there is a hispanic congregation nearby.
i used to see witnesses out all the time, some even doing the slow pioneer shuffle.

I tried a different tactic this time. I told them I had looked in JWs before but I just couldn’t get past how families would treat their children in the disfellowshipping scenario. It was unfathomable to me how anyone could do that to their child. They danced a bit but then relented and went with keeping the congregation clean.
I said your faith would have to be pretty weak to allow someone else to sway you from it, just by associating with them.
and yes to the counting time- it was a whole minivan load of them, and where I live you have to drive from one house to the next.

What’s The Worst Thing About Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by minimus inwitnesses brag about their brotherhood and incredible love that exists within the organization.
they say they are really the only true religion.
is the jw religion the closest thing to jesus christ himself?.

That’s easy! There is no true religion, it’s all made up bullshit, no matter where it comes from.
The worst thing about Jehovah’s Witnesses is their lack of appreciation for this life we have. They don’t appreciate this is it, whether that be education, healthcare, exploring this world, accepting others, helping others........

Maybe because I live 40 miles from the nearest Kingdom Hall we are blessed with their presence more often. They were here just two weeks ago, and usually come out a couple times a year.

US WITHOLDING TAX PROCEDURS CHANGE NEXT YEAR

My paychecks were bigger this year and my refund smaller, which is how it should be.
I made more money and ended up paying less in taxes overall 2018 vs 2017. Still ended up paying $25,000 in just Federal Income Taxes though, even with all my deductions for/from AGI (vs almost $30,000 in Federal Income Tax in 2017).
My husband and I are not rich but middle class, so the tax reform did help us.
